Hi My name is Liz
I am a Mental Health Social Worker/ Psychotherapist- Hypnotherapist and published author.
I'm a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers and am a registered Mental Health Social Worker with AASW and Medicare. I have also been a registered Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers within Canada.
I hold a certificate in Alcohol & Other Drug Studies and have worked within the fields of Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Adult Community Mental Health, Parenting, Rehabilitation & Adult Education.
In 2015 I undertook studies in Hypnotherapy via The Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy-Psychotherapy (Australia) and hold a Foundation Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy. I am also a registered Hypnotherapist with Australian Hypnotherapists Association.
I have an extensive history of working in areas of dual diagnosis, (mental health and drug and alcohol). My experience in dual diagnosis work has enabled me with the skills and experience to provide a sound service with clients who have multiple issues such as mental illness, drug and alcohol concerns, acquired brain injuries, or intellectual disabilities. My background in Social Work further enhances this work in that my focus with my clients is from a bio-psychosocial approach.
I use a number of theraputic models within my service in conjunction with client needs including; Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Choice Theory, Acceptance & Committment Therapy(ACT), Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) as well as Hypnotherapy in conjunction with Psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, motivation, smoking cessation, weight management, pain management (when GP approved) and many more conditions.
As of 2015 my private practice within the Swan Hill Community will have been successfully operating for over 7 years providing both a contracted service to children, youth and their families as well as a Medicare Service ($15 gap fee) that is open to all age groups via a GP referral, other funded services under compensation scemes and full fee paying options with private health rebate available. Hypnosis fee is $115 per 50 minute session, some Medicare or private health rebates may apply with appropriate GP Mental Health referral.
I lecture in Mental Health for Monash University via the Swan Hill fourth year Medical Internship and provide professional development and supervision to other professionals.
My work as an author has resulted in my writing a number of books; What If Worries for children with anxiety disorder was my first published book (available for purchase via this site along with my other books)
My latest book is a short novel titled; The Lesser Evil. Very different from my therapy books but worth the read. (also available to order via this site)
I regularly attend workshops and training courses to ensure my skills are updated and maintained, aiming to attend a minimum of 3 training courses each year as well as reading journals and maintaining clinical and peer supervision.
I work from a multidisciplined network with regular contact with GP's, Psychiatrists, Nurses, Psychiatric Nurses, Psychologists and Social Workers.
